Hearst Postpones Opening Night for its Designer Visions

Monday, October 29, 2012

Given that New York Governor Andrew Cuomo and President Barack Obama have declared a state of emergency in New York (as well as several other eastern states), and that New York City is expected to be without public transit as a result of Hurricane Sandy, Hearst Magazines has postponed its Designer Visions Showcase, which was scheduled to take place Tuesday, October 30, until Monday, November 12. New invitations will be issued.

Hearst Magazines had planned to debut its sixth annual Designer Visions, a showcase of the best in interior design talent and trends, with a celebration on October 30th at 250 WestStreet, El Ad Group’s residential property in Tribeca. Hearst Design Group publications Elle Decor, House Beautiful, and Veranda have partnered with top interior designers to create three exquisite apartments in the luxury building, each residence reflecting the magazines’ unique style and point of view. The designers for this year’s Designer Visions, which will now kick off on November 12, are: Matthew Patrick Smyth for Elle Decor David Rockwell for House Beautiful; and Antony Todd for Veranda.

The three residences are serving as movie sets for six short films (two in each apartment) that have been made as part of Designer Visions’ collaboration with 48 Hour Film Project, an organization whose mission is to advance filmmaking and promote filmmakers. On November 12, the six films will be screened, followed by an exclusive party at the Designer Visions residences. A panel of members of the film and advertising communities will judge the entries and select, respectively, the best film and the film that best integrates participating sponsors including Jenn-Air and Benjamin Moore.

Following the gala opening, the Designer Visions residences will host a series of exclusive events through the end of the year. Each apartment will be featured editorially in its respective magazine: the November 2012 issue of House Beautiful, the December 2012 issue of Elle Decor and the January/February 2013 issue of Veranda. A virtual tour and behind-the-scenes video, as well as feature interviews with the editors and designers, sponsor information, and resources will be available online this fall at elledecor.com, housebeautiful.com and veranda.com.
