Complex Media Acquires Concert Social Net
Wednesday, March 7, 2012
Complex Media has acquired the SuperGlued social network of musical artists and concertgoers. Complex Media already maintains a network of owned and partnered sites targeting the young male demo with entertainment content. The absorption of SuperGlued gives the company social network tools that can help Complex redistribute media across the community. The deal also gives Complex a presence in the mobile app market.
SuperGlued offers both Web and mobile apps that help live music fans track their favorite bands and concerts. The apps aggregate images, blog posts, reviews tweets, check-ins, videos and performance set lists from the leading social nets: foursquare, Facebook, Twitter, YouTube and others. The collected data around specific concert experiences preserves the moment. The apps also let concertgoers engage with one another on and off site in real time. Bands like Pearl Jam and Kings of Leon as well as media partners like MTV have used the platform to engage with their fan base. Billboard named the company one of the top 10 startups of 2011.
Acquisition terms were not disclosed. But SuperGlued co-founder Rush Doshi joins Complex Media as head of product and audience development initiatives. Doshi helped found the company in 2009 after spending a decade in the digital media space at AOL, BlackPlanet and Bolt.
Complex Media claims over 4.7 million monthly uniques for its Complex.com hub and another 45 million uniques for its network of Web sites for which it acts as sales rep.
