Here’s Why Pinterest Is So Good For Women’s MagazinesThursday, February 16, 2012 One chart tells the tale of why the photo bulletin board social network Pinterest is performing so well for women’s service magazine brands like MarthaStewart.com, RealSimple.com and others. RJMetrics analyzed the source domain on a million pins and found over 100,000 separate sources. But among them a long tail of branded media sources exists. While Etsy is far and away the most popular source of content for the social network as well as other blogs and social networks, MarthaStewart.com, BHG.com and RealSimple.com are three magazine brands that pop into the top 20. According to RJMetrics, the viral activity in Pinterest is staggering. Eighty percent of the pinned images in the ecosystem have been re-pinned from another user. Compare that to one study of Twitter that showed only 1.4% of tweets were retweets. RJMetrics calls the level of sharing in Pinterest “astonishing,” and it means that a single image copied from your site can have tremendous effect in this ecosystem. The full RJMetrics report, including detailed charts of user pinning and sharing activity is here. ![]() If you have breaking news to share please contact min’s editors.
