AFAR Sees 334% Growth, Ups FrequencyFriday, September 16, 2011 AFAR Media says that its Sept./Oct. issue represents a 334% increase in ad revenue over the same issue on 2010. With 60.16 ad pages this issue vs. 23 last year, the take for the issue was over $1 million. In fact the issue revenue exceeded the income from all 2010 issues combined, the company says. With subscriptions up 55% in the first half of 2011 compared to same period last year, the magazine is increasing its frequency from six to seven issues a year. In 2012, the current combined Sept./Oct. issue will be split into two monthly numbers. AFAR is expanding its editorial team as well with Davina Baum coming on as director of digital content (formerly of CHOW) Jen Murphy as deputy editor (formerly of Food & Wine) and Serena Renner as assistant editor (formerly of Diabl and Via in San Francisco. AFAR will also initiate next month its first event, AFAR Experiences, in Cairo, Egypt. The exclusive 50-person affair will bring attendees into closer relationships and contact with local leaders. Launched in 2009, AFAR Media is a travel brand that emphasizes the interactions among tourists and the countries and peoples they visit.
