Reichl Gets ‘Gilted’: To Join Foodie E-Commerce SiteThursday, March 31, 2011 More than a year after the much-bemoaned shuttering of foodie mainstay Gourmet magazine, its famous 1999-2009 editor-in-chief Ruth Reichl is embracing some of the newest models on the Web. According to a report from The New York Observer, Reichl is joining e-commerce venture Gilt Groupe’s upcoming upscale food store and content site Gilt Taste. Scheduled for a spring launch, the site promises to be an online market of “artisan foods” as well as a repository of food-related content and recipes. Gilt Groupe and sister company Gilt City were among the pioneers of the group buying field. Reichl will not be the first magazine veteran to move to Gilt. PR, editorial and business executives from other titles have migrated to Gilt in the past year. Gilt started moving into the magazine-like content field last year with the launch of Gilt MANual, a men's guide to fashion that is attached to the Gilt shopping experience. Former men's magazine writers and editors, including Men.Style.com's Tyler Thoreson and Esquire's Josh Peskowitz, moved to the site. Since Gourmet’s closing in October 2009, Reichl has been less visible, but that is about to change on multiple fronts. She will be a judge on the next season of Top Chef Masters. And in her role at Gilt Taste she may be joined by Salon’s food editor Francis Lam, according to a report in NYMag’s Grub Street blog. If you have breaking news to share please contact min’s editors.
