Mobile Content to Top $3.5 Billion by 2014 The recent report from eMarketer focuses mainly on direct media sales to consumers, and so emphasized the growth of music, gaming and video. Mobile games, which now account for $849 million in revenue, will grow to over $1.5 billion in 2014, while mobile music, starting from the smallest base, will grow from $143 million this year to $676.5 million in four years. The music market is shifting from its original shape on mobile phones as ringtones to full song downloads. Elkin emphasizes that media owners will need to follow their users across multiple platforms to keep them happy. The new media consumer expects seamless access to games, video and music regardless of the platform. Publishers will need to create business models and subscription structures that support this expectation. “The content owners that will thrive in this digital ecosystem are the ones that understand the need to deliver seamlessly,” Elkin says.
