BREAKING NEWS & VIEWS
Gourmet Mag Redux: Condé Plans Special EditionsTuesday, August 31, 2010 The demise of Gourmet magazine last year was among the loudest periodical foldings in recent memory, but Condé Nast just announced plans to bring the venerable brand back to newsstands in a series of special edition issues. Gourmet Quick Kitchen will go on sale Sept. 7 and will include 81 fast recipes in an illustrated cookbook format. Two more special edition titles will be published in 2011.Quick Kitchen is a 120-page $10.99 book edited by Gourmet’s former executive food editor Kemp Minifie and former executive editor of O, the Oprah Magazine, Catherine Kelley. The book includes new recipes and photos as well as eight new menus and wine pairings from the wine director of The Modern, Belinda Chang. The Gourmet revival issue joins several other special edition titles that Condé Nast has planned for its line of magazine brands. Gourmet will see another iteration on the iPad and other tablets later this year with the launch of Gourmet Live. Many longtime readers of the magazine mourned its passing. It was among the handful of magazines that readers tended to collect for future reference. This new release has just that sort of devotion in mind. Carol Smith, VP and publishing director, Bon Appétit and Gourmet said in a statement, “The Gourmet special editions offer a new way for food lovers to add to their treasured collections and for new cooks to build a solid foundation.” Gourmet was founded in 1941.
