Cosmopolitan to Launch in Vietnam

Plenty of emotion and irony here, as Cosmopolitan enters Vietnam, where 50,000-plus Americans lost their lives from roughly the mid-1960s through the mid-1970s fighting Communist North Vietnam. Yet, like China, theoretically "Communist" Vietnam has embraced capitalism, with proof being April's launch of Cosmopolitan's 60th edition in the country. Initial 20,000 print run will be distributed in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City (the former Saigon) through partner Sun Flower Media.

Cosmo International editor-in-chief (since 1997) Helen Gurley Brown made the U.S. flagship the Sex & the Single Girl powerhouse when she became editor-in-chief in 1965. Chances are that many female military personnel (nurses, etc.) read Cosmo in Vietnam for R&R just as their male counterparts read Playboy. Now the magazine returns with new meaning to make love, not war.
