Time Promotes Elliott and Gibbs

The chairs shuffle a bit this week at Time magazine. International editor Michael Elliott has been tapped as the deputy managing editor of the news weekly. Elliott will man both posts. He came to Time in 2005 and served previously at The Economist and Newsweek.

Coming in as executive editor is longtime political writer Nancy Gibbs. Gibbs will manage staff development and develop story and cover ideas and assign and edit stories.

Leaving the deputy managing editor post is Romesh Ratnesar, who will stay on as a contributor.

NYPost’s Keith Kelly reports that the promotions indicate Time shifting authority to some of the more seasoned journalists in it ranks rather than the “young turks.”
