SI Swimsuit 2010 Does Full Web Press of the 2010 Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue cover. Brooklyn Decker was chosen as the cover model, which marked the launch of the magazine brand’s traditional multiplatform extravaganza in support of the franchise. The SI.com/Swimsuit site boasts 1,400 images and 100 videos, including a new “Off the Clock” section of candid material. The always-popular body painting section is back. The magazine says that last year more than 66 million people were exposed to the SI Swimsuit franchise. This year, the influence of social media is more in evidence in the SI plan. Videos can be embedded at a user’s own site (see Brooklyn Decker clip below). But SI has also launched dedicated pages at all the usual social media suspects. The Swimsuit YouTube Channel has been teasing the reveal on a page that bears a sponsorship from Sprite. That channel, which has been up since 2007, boasts more than 2.1 million video views and 23,000 subscribers. A Swimsuit Twitter feed chronicled the reveal on Letterman last night and directs users to pose questions to models via a #SISwim hashtag and to model-specific Twitter accounts. The SI Swimsuit feed has more than 6,000 followers. And, of course, the Sports Illustrated Facebook page is also promoting the franchise. That page includes Ustream live video events. And no cross-platform media play would be complete in 2010 without an iPhone app. The SI Swimsuit 2010 app is free but includes an offer to upgrade ($1.99) for access to 50 videos and additional models. Since its launch as a single weekly issue in 1964, the SI Swimsuit franchise has generated greater than $1 billion in revenue for the brand in books, DVDs, TV programming and events. The annual issue averages 1 million copies in newsstand sales. Last year’s online push garnered more than 8 million unique users and 268 million page views.
