Forbes Acquires FlipGloss

Despite its cutbacks elsewhere in the company, Forbes has invested in new publishing technology in its purchase of FlipGloss Media. The newly minted FlipGloss (founded in 2008) produces a “Digital Glossy Insert” that is a kind of online slide show that lets users interact with images and ads in a seamless fashion. Users of the FlipGloss slideshow can get additional pop-ups and captions by hovering over an image or clicking on specific areas of an image. Samples are available at the FlipGloss site.

In acquiring FlipGloss, Forbes also becomes potentially a technology supplier to other publishers, since the FlipGloss client roster includes Variety, ScrippsNetworks, Modern Luxury Media as well as major brands such as Target and BMW. A purchase price was not disclosed by the two private companies.
