BREAKING NEWS & VIEWS

Joe Lagani Joins iVillage
Thursday, September 24, 2009

Joe Lagani, who in October 2007 shook up the magazine industry—especially Condé Nast—when he quit as House & Garden VP/publisher to join the upstart Glam Media as VP/brand sales, remains on the digital side in his new capacity as iVillage senior VP/ad sales. Per Women's Wear Daily (September 24), Lagani's hiring comes as the NBC Universal-owned iVillage is revamping its established women's-targeted sites (beauty/health/home/beauty/family) and launching a new one: entertainment. He starts on Oct. 1.

Current news is not as dramatic as two years ago, when CN shut down the 104-year-old H&G in November 2007—less than one month after Lagani left. It was an early sign of financial pressures at the company, which continue with the well-publicized McKinsey & Co. audit.

Pre-H&G (2004), Lagani was a Meredith Corp. executive, rising to publishing director of Country Home (since folded), Traditional Home and the American Baby Group. Wife Donna Lagani is Cosmopolitan publishing director; brother Dan Lagani is the former publisher of Better Homes and Gardens and president of the Fairchild Fashion Group.
