Access Intelligence Gets Health Coverage – Acquires Contexo

Access Intelligence (parent company to min, min’s b2b and minonline) deepens a strategic plan to expand its portfolio of subscription-based information and service products with the acquisition of Contexo Media, the Salt Lake City, Utah firm that provides medical coding, software and reimbursement books to the medical billing industry. A purchase price was not disclosed, but the move extends AI’s recent acquisitions in other segments such as energy. In March, AI purchased a pair of energy and communications events from Technology Systems, Corp. In May, AI took a stake in the RETECH renewable energy conference.

Contexo is both a business information and a services company. In addition to medical billing and case management products in the healthcare market, it also runs Dorland Health, a 50-year-old publisher of medical content such as Case in Point magazine. In a statement, AI CEO Don Pazour says, “We find the medical coding and case management products the hallmark of the highest-quality found in the marketplace. We are excited to employ our best-of-breed content and sales and marketing solutions to build market share and mind share within the community.”

Access Intelligence, itself a portfolio company of Veronis Suhler Stevenson, publishes multiple titles across a range of verticals, including chemical (Chemical Engineering and Chemical Week), defense (Defense Daily), media and PR (min and PR News), energy and cable (CableFAX). This purchase extends AI into the managed health care field and will be organized as the Contexo Media Division to be overseen by AI Business Information Group president Heather Farley.
