big winners

The film industry has the Oscars and Golden Globes. TV has the Emmys. Music has the Grammys. Not to be outdone, magazines have the Ozzies, Eddies, Maggies, Azbees, and many more awards programs that honor the best creative work of the year. Kudos if your publication was lucky enough to receive mention at any one of these industry celebrations; double kudos to those honored with two or more awards. We'd like to further honor those organizations that rose above the fray to capture the hearts of multiple judging panels across the country. To you, we give the biggest award of them all, named after the number one minsider, Steve Cohn, EIC of min: the Cohnies.

Advanstar: Best known for its MAGIC Marketplace fashion tradeshow, Advanstar was one of the most honored companies this year at American Business Media’s Jesse H. Neal Awards, the Pulitzers of B2B media.
Cohnies: 5, one for every Neal.

IDG: This publisher of PC World, among other iconic brands, not only cleaned up at the Neals this year, but its flagship enterprise title CIO won an astounding 19 Azbees, including eight golds.
Cohnies: 1, a big one, for its champion brand, CIO.

CFO Publishing Corporation
: CFO is the only book published by this company, but it was enough this year to rake in six Eddies/Ozzies, one Neal, and 11 Azbees, including nine golds.
Cohnies: 1 virtual Cohnie, because the awards mantle at CFO is barely able to support all the bling as it is.

New York Magazine
: Ordinarily, the National Magazine Awards are the stomping ground of New York’s almost-same-name rival, The New Yorker, but not this year. This go-round, New York bit back by sweeping the competition and winning five National Magazine Awards, including the general excellence award in its weight class.
Cohnies: 5 for each award, and one extra for winning the battle of the big apple.

Time, Inc
: People, SI, Entertainment Weekly, Time—these are brands that represent our industry. This year, those brands (and many others produced by Time) brought home the bacon (and the mantle metal, too). We wanted to list all the awards that Time won this year, but there were far too many to mention. We will say that we at min threw Vivek Shah, president of the Time, Inc. Business Finance Network, into our Digital Hall of Fame.
Cohnies: 130+, one for every Time, Inc. brand.

Meredith
: Topping Ad Age’s A-list in any given year is a noteworthy accomplishment. To not only top it, but to dominate it two years in a row—at a time when the level of competition has never been higher—is, well, worth noting again. Last year, More topped the list, and this year, More moved down to second place to give sister pub Better Homes & Gardens some time in the limelight as number one.
Cohnies: 2, for each year of dominance.
