PEOPLE.com: A Royal Wedding: Time Inc. (consumer)

When People.com said “I do” to covering the April 29 royal nuptials, it was all in to capture “the excitement around a wedding that we, and probably a couple billion other people, have been waiting months to see,” says managing editor Janice Morris.

The digital team’s staff of 40 began providing updates at 4 a.m. (Eastern), and engaged readers on Facebook and Twitter in a frenzy that led to 162 million page views in a single day. Aside from delivering constant updates, People.com brought readers into the party atmosphere via an interactive encyclopedia of all things royal, the ability to “try on” Kate Middleton’s veil and tiara when they uploaded their photo, a live blogging page, and a clickable map of Will and Kate’s favorite hot spots.

“A fully interactive and social destination for a huge event is now what our readers expect from People.com,” Morris says.

UBM Electronics’ Drive for Innovation: UBM Electronics (b2b winner)

Talk about driving a connection with your community. In partnership with Avnet Express, UBM launched this first-of-its kind media project designed to showcase electronics innovation and automotive system design anchored by a yearlong, cross-country journey in a Chevrolet Volt.

The Web site, targeted to engineers, features blogging and video posts by EE Times editorial director Brian Fuller, who zipped around innovation hubs in the U.S. in a fire-engine-red Volt, interviewing engineers, entrepreneurs, innovators, students and the occasional “mad scientist” along the way.

Aside from learning about the electronics innovation behind the Volt and the future of plug-in electric cars, visitors to the site also can track Fuller via an interactive map and participate in an assortment of related games.
