San Antonio Breast Cancer Symposium Daily Updates: CURE Media Group (consumer)

CURE Media specializes in tailoring topics from other news media to its primary readership of cancer patients and survivors. Once a year, it produces a daily online newsletter about the world’s leading breast cancer research meeting: the San Antonio Breast Cancer Symposium.

“While the mainstream media may be focusing on the impact for Wall Street or the general public, we present the information on how best it can be used by those who may be directly impacted,” notes Elizabeth Whittington, managing editor of CURETODAY.com.

Combining scientific news with patient profiles and blogs from staffers, including two cancer survivors and a noted breast oncologist, CURE engages readers through social media to make sure the newsletter is best serving their needs. “Many readers tell us they use the articles as a conversation starter, Whittington says.

UBM Electronics’ EE Life Newsletter: UBM Electronics (b2b winner)

The EE Life newsletter offers timely content that addresses its niche audience of engineering professionals with aplomb. It is published weekly with links to content from the EE Life site plus unique editorial material that explores the professional and social aspects of being an engineer.

Often irreverent in style, editorial director Brian Fuller’s Editor’s Note is a popular feature, as are EE Life surveys, which are about industry issues, and the popular monthly cartoon-caption contest.

“These are types of content that not only foster reader engagement, but a deep sense of community and site ownership,” Fuller says.

The newsletter also has a short section listing headlines of top articles and linking directly to the articles for readers with limited time.
