Rodale’s App-Man Matt Bean Leaves For SI.com Post
Friday, August 17, 2012
One of the architects of the Rodale mobile and emerging media programs, Matt Bean has moved to Sports illustrated as SI.com managing editor. He is succeeding longtime online lead, Paul Fichtenbaum who is now Time Inc. Sports Group editorial director. Bean will oversee SI.com and the FanNation.com sites. He will report to Fichtenbaum.
Bean had been with Rodale for eight years, where he oversaw a unit formed specifically to develop device-based and video extensions of the Rodale magazine and book properties. Under his stewardship, Rodale developed one of the most ambitious and sophisticated mobile app programs of any magazine publisher. The program not only extended Men’s Health, Prevention and Women’s Health magazines into digital editions, but Rodale produced a suite of more than 30 apps across game, fitness trainer and e-book genres. Bean, who spoke on numerous occasions at Min Webinars and at Min Day, recommended that publishers leverage a network of apps that cross-market one another.
Bean has also been an on-air host at Spike TV’s The Playbook where he engaged in a range of adventure sports. He also teaches at NYU.
