Michael Kuntz Named Popular Mechanics Publisher

On Jan. 31, Hearst Magazines Men’s Group senior VP/publishing director/chief revenue officer (since July 2011) Jack Essig filled a one-month vacancy with his hire of Michael Kuntz as Popular Mechanics publisher. When he starts on Feb. 19, Kuntz will succeed Bill Congdon, who ended a nine-year stint on Dec. 31 to teach at his University of Connecticut alma mater.

Most recently, Kuntz was Rodale Inc. associate VP/digital sales. Earlier, he worked at the company’s Prevention flagship as associate publisher of integrated sales followed by Prevention.com digital sales director.

As Popular Mechanics publisher, Kuntz will be directly responsible for the advertising and marketing of the monthly,, focusing on print, digital, mobile, and other platforms.
