The typical monthly traffic at ALLURE.COM actually is rather demure, with 1.5 million page views and maybe 200,000 unique visitors. But when Britney Spears takes her clothes off, the eyeballs rushed in to the tune of 11 million page views/1 million unique visitors, and an August-versus-July differential of +633.41% PVs/+551.56% UVs.

The feature involved behind-the-scenes images of the Britney cover shoot for the September issue, which were more revealing than the print version, where founding editor-in- chief (March 1991) Linda Wells criticized Britney's erratic behavior (min, August 13, 2007). Just more fuel for the online hype, as, per CondéNet, Britney's "exposure" alone pulled in 5.5 million PVs/672,000 UVs. Thank you blogs, and thank you PEREZHILTON.COM.

Rodale's major health and lifestyle sites have been in growth mode throughout the year as the company focuses on digital. But the summer activity months have been especially good for MENSHEALTH.COM (+12.26% PVs, +42.74% UVs), WOMENSHEALTH.COM(+37.37%/+46.94%), and BESTLIFEONLINE.COM (+147.16%/+160.82%) with a high percentage gain off of low starting traffic. Hearst's ESQUIRE.COM (+69.42% PVs, +48.68% UVs) is starting to approach a 1 million audience share through franchises like Women We Love.
