Soundbites from the American Magazine Conference
The circa-500 attendees at the AMC in Boca Raton, Fla., got a MagaBrand earful. Here are five 'briefs":
"United, we stand; divided, we will disappear." 2. Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia Media president of media Wenda Harris Millard (ex-DoubleClick/Yahoo!) on the changing scene: "The media world has changed more in the last five years than it did in the 50 years before that...and it will change even more in the next five years." 3. Advertising Age editor Jonah Bloom on the importance of integrated martketing to Association of National Advertising members: "Integrated marketing was fourth in importance in 2004, second in 2006, and tops in 2007." 4. American Express Publishing Corp. president Ed Kelly and Hearst Magazines executive VP/chief marketing officer Michael Clinton--both representing the Magazine Marketing Coalition--on the magazines' market share (versus all media):
"Magazines are +1.9% in the past three years. Only the Internet has done better." 5. Men''s Health editor-in-chief David Zinczenko, in his capacity as American Magazine Conference chairman, to a CNBC reporter on whether the so-called "decline" of magazines made AMC a "wake": "Magazines use the Internet, event marketing, and other media [television, etc.] better than anyone. That is one reason why, per min, the monthlies 2007 ad pages are nearly +2% through November." More Steve Cohn
