Kupper seemingly "hung 'em up" in June when he ended a seven-year-stint as BusinessWeek president (replete with an elaborate farewell party), but in July, Ad Age president Rance Crain invited him to join the board of directors of his separately owned Turnstile Publishing. With Golfweek as the flagship and Kupper's well-known passion for the sport, it was the perfect fit, and--as it turned out--the end of the Labor Day holiday meant "back to work" for Kupper, too, with Crain anointing him Turnstile president. Aside from Golfweek, properties include TurfNet, GLO, Fish & Fly, Art Calendar, GeezerJock, several Web sites, and Golfweek TV.
Among Kupper's new competitors are the Condé Nast-owned Golf Digest/GolfWorld, and--indirectly--BW. Latter's partnership with GD began during the the 1993-2000 reign of Kupper predecessor Dave Ferm (a past GD publisher who is now a consultant) and has continued since.
UPDATE: Per communications with Kupper, he will be primarily based in New York City (not in Orlando, where Turnstile is based), and will be actively looking to expand the company through acquisition.
