'Urbanathletes' Learn Cab-Leaping From the Master

The record 5,500 athletes competing in Men's Health's sixth "Urbanathlon" in Chicago on October 17 had to be physically fit to meet such challenges as climbing the steps of the 10-story Soldier Field (home of the Chicago Bears). But they also had to be "urbanly" fit in making it over a taxi. Here, four are shown succeeding in Chicago (just before scaling a 10-foot wall) in the relative comfort of a grassy field. Yet at MH's 2007 Urbanathlon in New York, senior VP/publisher (since January 2005) Jack Essig used a left-hand twist that would have made any gymnast proud. Plus, New York being what it is, Essig's accomplishment came on city streets with a Reduce Speed warning in the background.
