Scientific American Tests Love Theories in Tribeca story: “How Science Can Help You Fall in Love...and Stay That Way."SA’s scientific bent made for an interesting lesson on the psychological, physiological, chemical and social effects of intimacy. Editor-in-chief Mariette DiChristina and Scientific American Mind contributing editor Dr. Robert Epstein played host to an experiential night that included audience participation. Based on Epstein’s empirical research into what makes a successful committed relationship, participants were asked to take part in various exercises. For example, participants spent two solid minutes looking into another person's eyes. The idea was that looking into someone’s eyes is like looking into their soul. (Longest two minutes ever, for this minsider—sorry Dr. E.) For more on the eternal question, “Is it possible to keep love alive?” check out Epstein’s blog on Scientific American’s Web site.
