National Geographic Launches in Lithuania

Lithuania becomes the 32nd country to have a local-language National Geographic, and the first of the three Baltic states (with Estonia and Latvia) that were part of the former Soviet Union to do so.

Pictured (left to right)  at the Sept. 24 reception in Vilnius are NG (U.S.) executive VP Terry Adamson, NG (Lithuania) publisher Arvydas Andrijauskas and NG (U.S.) editor-in-chief Chris Johns. Andrijauskas is also managing director of NG's Lithuanian partner, Alma Littera.

Cover of the October launch is "all-American" (or, better put, "all-Californian"): the redwoods. As with all NG international editions, the editorial well is is a mix of Lithuanian stories and those translated from the U.S. flagship.
