Editors Leave Keyboard Behind, Brave NYC Marathon Among the magazine pros running were founding publisher of New York magazine George Hirsch, Women’s Health deputy editor Leah Flickinger and Self fitness editor Sheila Monaghan and associate editor Amy Gallo. Self editor-in-chief Lucy Danziger, who ran the marathon in 2007, skipped Sunday's race in order to train for the World Half-Triathlon Championships on Nov. 14 in Clearwater, Fla. "I was among the last to qualify among elite athletes, and the achievement is a huge thrill for me," she tells min. Celebrity chef Rocco DiSpirito also qualified for the triathlon. "If Rocco can make me dinner the night before, I will be very happy," Danziger says. He wore #75 for the occasion as he is 75 years old. Hirsch went on to be publisher of New Times, The Runner, Runner's World and, presently, La Cucina Italiana. Self fitness editor Monaghan's time qualifies her for the April 19, 2010, Boston Marathon. "At the present moment, I can hardly walk," she says. "But still--I can hardly wait." From AmEx Publishing, Shannon Adducci ran for Lance Armonstrong's Livestrong, and Stephen Wallis ran for Citymeals-on-Wheels.
