Last night was the scheduled opening night party for the Architectural Digest Home Design Show at Pier 94 on the West Side. The event was meant to be a benefit and silent auction for The Alpha Workshops. The guests were distinguished and the floor was beautiful…until we started noticing firefighters working their way through the crowd (and not on their way to the bar, like we were). Within 30-40 minutes of the start of the show, all 500 guests were asked to clear the building as the event was being shut down. Speculations flew, but James Humphrey, Director of Media Relations/Advertising for Architectural Digest/Gourmet informed us today that the reason for the shut down was a paperwork glitch, a matter between the owner of the building and the City of New York. But the rest of the home show will go on as scheduled (March 7-9). Too bad all the hard work that went into the party went to waste just because someone didn’t sign a piece of paper. What a shame. I’m sure we would’ve had a good time.
