If the guests at the Atlantic Monthly’s annual State of the Union cocktail party (held last night at the grand ballroom of the Plaza—currently under renovations) are representative of the population at large, most Americans were supporters of Hillary Clinton, but now most are supporters of Barack Obama. Though at an overtly political affair, the min Team did not question the VIPs we spoke with as to their current favorite candidate.  Instead, we polled the murmur of the crowd. What usually sounds like “watermelon” being said repeatedly and at a fast clip (try it!) actually sounded like “Obama, Obama, Obama.”

Conservatively, we’ll estimate based on this poll that Obama will win the Democratic nomination and then go on to win the general election with roughly 93%* of the vote with 98%** participation. We are not professional pollsters, but we do go to a lot of cocktail parties, so, excuse us, we think we know.

* Margin of error +/- 93%
** Margin of error +/- 98%
