“I feel bad for these poor people who decided to have dinner here at this time:” Jason Binn, helmer at Niche Media (which just formed a strategic partnership with other society life publishers Greenspun Media and Ocean Drive, by the way) on the mic at Madame Tongs at JL Beach Club in Southampton, referring to the outdoor diners whose meal was colored by the loud, summery music and the din of schmoozing at Binn’s latest bash.
To the min team, however, those diners were in a prime position to observe the socializing habits of the local fauna: bronzed men and women in oversized sunglasses wearing all white, or, for the females, clingy but flowing sundresses. We caught up with Cindi Cook, editor of the magazine, who was enjoying the beautiful weather, the glorious country sunset, but had a “personal” day on the horizon—“no matter how nice it is, I’m going to get things done tomorrow.”
We also talked with Binn a bit later. He was still on the mic, pointing out various celebrities in the crowd. He announced a contest that confused the min team, something involving a party-goer guessing the same number as he guessed—and the winner would get to be on James Lipton’s show, Inside the Actor’s Studio. The min team didn’t win—we’re bad at puzzles.
The min team left before we could find out what Kelsey/Camille Grammer (cover stars) were up to for the summer. We’re guessing the same as everybody else: barbecue, beers, beaches, bikinis, and…lots of calamine lotion.
