Women Over 40 Work it for More

Sassy Angela Bassett gave running commentary as ten finalists in the 7th annual More/Wilhelmina 40+ Model Search sashayed down the runway in front of hundreds of people and a gaggle of photographers. Each of the ten—a number whittled down impossibly from 16,000—made three trips: one in an “every day” outfit; one in a cocktail dress; and one in an evening gown.  Normal model code dictates no smiling, but these women, three of whom are doctors, were all teeth as they fulfilled a lifelong dream.
Wilhelmina gave away three modeling contracts to the top performers, including the grand prize of a diamond watch (Baume & Mercier), a cruise (Princess Cruises), and other goodies to Patricia Neville who is a 50 year old clothing company manager from Miami.

Steve Lacy, chairman and CEO of the Meredith Corporation, which publishes More, misjudged the min team’s interest in older women when he said, “this is for our demographic, not yours—they’re our age…well, almost.”  (Lacey is perhaps a bit older than some of the models.)

Brenda Sagat-Darling, publisher of More and one of min magazine’s 21 most intriguing people of 2006, was beaming for the winner—and for More: announced that night, circ has almost reached 1.2 million.

I have always been told I should model. I am 40 and feel and look better than ever. I have an outdoorsy look in my everyday attire. However, with the right tools, I have a very wide range of looks.
