Zinio Invites Web Surfers to Step INSIDE
Tuesday, November 25, 2008

Ever read an article in a publication that engaged you so much that you sent the link in a mass email to your family and friends? Sure you have. It’s also very possible you received numerous replies complaining that a password was needed to access the material or the link is now inactive. Your attempt to share something meaningful has been denied. However, Zinio INSIDE has an answer for instances like this.

The basic premise of Zinio INSIDE is the program allows content from the pages of over 1,000 different titles in Zinio’s library to be found through search engines such as Google and shared on community-based or viral applications. Zinio INSIDE also enables readers to show an article to friends and family via social networks like Facebook and MySpace along with the ability to insert content on personal blogs and Web sites.

The print publishing industry is looking for ways to reach new audiences and extend circulations, and Zinio INSIDE is a good facilitator for both of these endeavors. Publishers now have the chance to find new viewers with the sharing capacities offered by Zinio INSIDE. At the same time, the layout of their publications remains consistent and no additional costs are needed for advertising.

The consistency of the editorial format is also a bonus for companies who wish to track and share coverage of clients. Basically, Zinio INSIDE can double as a free and wide-ranging method of obtaining tear sheets for interested parties. Readers also have the option to purchase a single issue or 12 month subscription with the “Read it All” feature. Best of all, the request is available immediately on the user’s PC with no download required.

I would suggest a re-count of Zinio's claim of "over 1,000 different titles". What's a "title" -- I would assume a magazine title has a frequency and is not duplicated.

If you exclude the one-time issues and duplicates, you end up with roughly 600 titles, of which less than 400 are in English. Subtract the "adult" titles and it's even fewer. Let's be careful when reprinting the press releases of any company and do some fact checking.
