Hugh Hefner has enjoyed more than his share of “toys.” He waxes nostalgically about his private jet, “The Big Bunny,” that he bought in the late ’60s. But the one item in his inventory that you’d have to pry out of his cold dead hands would be the place where he laid his head at night.

“My all-time favorite possession is my rotating, vibrating round bed,” he says. The bed was custom-made in the early ’60s and was initially meant to be featured in the magazine as part of a tricked-out bachelor pad story. Hefner decided to keep it as the centerpiece of his office/bedroom in Chicago. “I just liked the notion of a bed that would be so functional,” he says. The bed rotated in both directions, had a phone attached and a backboard with a desk, cabinet and bar. “I never used it as a merry-go-round,” he laughs. Hefner could face the fireplace, the TV or the backboard while he worked. “It was the center of the Playboy world.”
