Andy Goodenough
President and CEO, Summit Business Media

Andy Goodenough generated a b2b buzz back in early July when he added CEO to his title at Summit Business Media, but the appointment seems a natural conclusion to a steady rise to the top of the industry he was actually born into. After earning an MBA from NYU, he started in the ad sales department of his family’s b2b media business, Cleworth Publishing, in 1977.

After only five years, his family sold the business and Andy was named president of Kalo Communications and then publisher of U.S. Banker, which was later sold to Thomson Media. There he became president of the banking publishing and conferences group. In 2003, he launched Highline Media, which was acquired by Summit in 2006. By 2007, he was named president, and less than a year later he took the post as chief executive officer.

With all this business publishing experience, Andy was well prepared to deal with the challenges of the current down market. “I’ve seen more than two downturns,” he says, stressing that having a diverse portfolio can be an asset. Summit is a publising and information company serving the financial, insurance and professional services markets with magazines, awebsites and electronic products, as well as conferences. “One of the keys to our success is having very diversified revenue. Broadly speaking, we offer a lot of products including subscription revenue, events and electronic products.”
