For publishers seeking to build their all-important September 2008 business, they seemingly faced the perfect Murphy's Law scenario with a weak "everything": economy, dollar, consumer confidence, etc.  Sure enough, the women's fashion/beauty September ad page chart shows steep, double-digit page drops by Glamour/In Style/O/Vogue and W.  It was not "the sky is falling" Murphy's Law, but the "what goes up must come down" Newton's Law that applied.
