Sports Illustrated Gives Tiger Woods' U.S. Open Victory an Early Release
Tuesday, June 17, 2008

Normally, the new Sports Illustrated comes out every Wednesday, five days before the cover date. But the excitement of Tiger Woods winning golf's U.S. Open yesterday (June 16) in a
classic playoff with Rocco Mediate induced managing editor Terry McDonell and president/publisher Mark Ford to speed up the process. Result is that June 23's appropriately cover-lined The Hard Way was on newsstands Tuesday (June 17), less than 24 hours after the triumph. Not an absolute precedent for SI, but it shows that Woods is in a newsstand class almost all his own.

And golf isn't even a sport. Wait until the Celts win the title.
