Direct Marketing News: Direct Marketing News (b2b winner)
When it came time to revamp Direct Marketing News, the staff focused on design elements its readers could, ahem, really buy in to. Among the myriad changes directed at facilitating ease of reading and focus on its editorial elements, the most significant was a page-by-page redesign from a tabloid to a standard magazine format. “The difference is size reflects a more contemporary manner of media consumption with longer length articles, more case studies, more deconstruction of creative work, more original art work and photography, more contemporary design,” notes Joanna Harp, VP/publisher at Direct Marketing News.
Prevention: May 2011 Issue: Prevention (consumer)
Prevention’s sweeping redesign was aimed as much at furthering readers’ feeling of empowerment as it was a straight-ahead artistic makeover.
“The most important thing you need to keep in mind when redesigning a magazine is your reader,” says Prevention creative director Peter Hemmel. “It is our job to inform, entertain, delight and inspire them. They are our biggest fans while at the same time their feedback keeps us on our toes.”
Hemmel adds that the response to the redesign has been overwhelming, citing one reader who wrote: “If I could purchase only one magazine, without a doubt, it would be Prevention. It just keeps getting better!” We wholeheartedly agree.
