Taking the Blog Pulse

Journos say they use blogs mainly to take the pulse of the audience (57.7%), and only a minority (38.7%) admits that they use them to find story ideas, according to a Millward Brown/PR Newswire/PRWeek survey. Scribes do admit, however, that they look at blogs to gauge how the competition and mainstream pubs are covering a story (51%). Meanwhile, a Synovate study for the Marin Association of Realtors found that only 3.9% of adults say they regard blogs as a news source. Our take? Munch both stats with a grain of salt. There is a vast difference between what people tell pollsters they take seriously (journalists or regular Joes) and how they really behave. We all raise our kids on only classical music and veggies too, right?
