Top  5: Teens Tweet with Seventeen and Marie Claire


Tuesday, August 9, 2011 To take a break from the heat politically, financially as well as physically, we watched the summer chatter on the popular magazine sites at their Twitter homes. Tracking the top five with the highest % gains of additional followers from June to July, there is no surprise that a good proportion of tweeters were chattering teens. Seventeen used its Twitter tactics to further engage readers, luring in 12.50% more followers than in May/June. Seventeen used a dually clever and causal effort in launching an anti-cyber bullying campaign in conjunction with ABC. Online users were able to opt to post a Twibbon (Twitter ribbon badge) to their Twitter or Facebook photo. In the process, tweeters are prompted to follow @seventeenmag. What’s better than gaining followers while fighting for a good cause?

And the girls from Glee shared their popularity on @marieclaire which of course led readers to the fun MC site with all the Glee covers and news about the talented tv stars.

We did our monthly Twitter check on July 19, 2011, to see how the consumer magazine Web sites listed in min’s digital boxscores August 1 are faring in their quest for Twitter followers. min’s top 5 Twitter Watch (see chart below) is based on the 100 Web sites in our digital chart that have Twitter accounts.
