When Valerie Salembier joined Hearst Magazines as Esquire publisher in July 1996, she came with impressive credentials that included USA Today senior VP, The New York Times Magazine Group senior VP, and publisher of TV Guide and the New York Post.

Still, there were doubts at the time about Esquire and her, so Salembier--ever the boxing and baseball fan (she is a founder of the “fantasy” Rotisserie League)--guaranteed to min that she would “go the entire 15 rounds.” Which is exactly what she has achieved at Hearst. First, at Esquire from 1996-2003, where the magazine achieved a significant bottom-line turnaround. Then, as Harper’s Bazaar senior VP/publisher for eight years, her leadership has dramatically improved advertising and circulation revenue, significantly reduced expenses, and consistently increased profitability.

On May 16, 2011 Salembier embarked on her third challenge at Hearst Magazines as Town & Country senior VP/publisher/chief revenue officer.

All Well-deserving for min’s Sales Executive Hall of Fame. But if we did not select her, the NYPD would. Salembier has served as the unpaid chairman of the New York City Police Foundation since 2005, and in that capacity she has developed funding for several programs that have been critical to the successful, post-September 11 fight against terrorism.

Endemic to Harper’s Bazaar and the NYPD is fashion and accessories counterfeiting, which Salembier has raised awareness to domestically though the magazine’s anti-counterfeiting summits and worldwide by her speaking with government, law enforcement, and business leaders. In short, Valerie Salembier is an enthusiastic jock, top cop, and a great publisher.
