2011 Sales Executive Hall of Fame: Tom RousseauThursday, June 2, 2011Tom RousseauSenior VP and Company Sales Coach, Ziff Davis Enterprise Tom Rousseau, according to Ziff Davis Enterprise CEO Steve Weitzner, “is just about legendary in our market.” It would be hard even among Hall of Famers to do better than that, with the possible exception of taking out the words “just about,” which Weitzner certainly didn’t intend as a qualifier. Rousseau, Weitzner adds, has years of experience as a major account sales person in the IT business, and currently manages the Dell account and other Texas business for ZDE. “Here's the thing about Tom,” Weitzner says. “He is very, very close to his customers. As a result he is generally way ahead of his counterparts and peers in spotting where the business is going and reinventing himself and helping us to evolve the products and services.” In the world of sales, that’s what it’s all about. Rousseau is a 28-year media solutions veteran. He’s sold or managed, according to his Linked-In profile, more than $500 million in advertising during his career. He’s viewed as a leader in the emerging “Marketing as a Service” concept in which media companies offer an array of marketing support initiatives to marketers who can consequently avoid major in-house investments in marketing solutions. His recent list of marketing “gets” reads like a who’s who of major technology marketers: β In 2005, landed a $1 million Toshiba Launch into the b-to-b market. β In 2007, he landed a $1.5 million launch campaign from Microsoft Vista. βIn 2008, Microsoft stepped up to the plate again with a $2 million campaign for Windows 7. β In 2009 and 2010, Intel spent $2.2 million based on campaigns Rousseau sold. Prior to come to Ziff Davis in 2005, Rousseau served as group publisher of Primedia’s Home Technology Group, where he was responsible for all sales and integrated marketing initiatives for the leading brands Home Theater and Stereophile magazines. Before that, he was at InfoWorld and at CMP Media, where he held several senior-level sales positions, each with increasing responsibility.
