2011 Sales Executive Hall of Fame: Greg Coleman

Thursday, June 2, 2011

Greg Coleman

Global President, Criteo

Greg Coleman has made a career in explosive sales growth for influential media and technology companies. Simply put, he builds and revs the commerce engine around great content.

Take Reader’s Digest. As president of U.S. Magazine publishing for Reader’s Digest Association from 1990-2001, Coleman turned advertising from an afterthought to more than 25% of corporate profit.

Take Yahoo! As EVP/global sales at Yahoo! from 2000-2008, Coleman assembled a preeminent sales team to grow ad revenues from $600 million to more than $6 billion.

Take The Huffington Post. As president and chief revenue officer, he built a $70 million/year ad business in 18 months prior to HuffPost’s acquisition by AOL for $315 million in February 2011.

Coleman’s achievements led to his April 2011 hire as global president of Criteo (www.criteo.com). He is leading the U.S. expansion of the Palo Alto, Calif.-based company that created performance advertising and leads the pay-per-click market in Europe. At his command are the retargeting tools that can truly personalize marketing online.

He got his start in ad sales in the 1970s, rising to VP/national sales for Woman’s Day and publisher of Memories before joining Reader’s Digest. Other achievements in the 2000s include CEO of NetSeer, an ad targeting startup, and president of Platform-A, the advertising arm of AOL.

Coleman is chairman emeritus and a board member of The Advertising Council. He also serves on the boards of Ancestry.com, AnchorFree, Martini Media and WMI. He was voted top professor in each of the past two years as the McDonough School of Business at Georgetown University and starting this fall, he will teach second-year MBA students at NYU’s Tisch School of Business.
