2011 Sales Executive Hall of Fame: Bruce MorrisThursday, June 2, 2011Bruce MorrisExecutive Vice President, Source Media Bruce Morris is the $1 billion man. In media circles, that’s an incredible accomplishment--$1 billion in sales over the course of a career. For salespeople who manage territories of, say, $1 million per year, it would take 1,000 years to sell $1 billion in media.Of course, group directors like Morris have much larger portfolios, but the feat isn’t diminished. Morris is responsible for a significant portion of SourceMedia’s portfolio with responsibility for the Professional Services and Technology Groups, including its flagship brand, Financial Planning. He’s been affiliated with the company in various senior sales and executive roles for over 18 years, and in 2010, his sales team on the flagship brand achieved 24 percent total revenue growth, including over 30 percent growth in digital-marketing solutions revenue. Morris, says SourceMedia CEO Doug Manoni, is a consummate sales professional, respected by his clients and industry colleagues alike for his strategic marketing orientation and forward-thinking. He exemplifies the consultative sales model, and he was an early adopter of integrated-digital media by embracing the Web and more recently tablet applications across his portfolio. Indeed, Morris launched Thomson Financial’s first Web site in early 1995, and he made money from the start. “Bruce is a great sales coach,” says Manoni. “Among his personal accomplishments, he serves as a role model and mentor to many younger professionals in our company, and around the industry.” One important aspect of Morris’ 30-year career is that he made the transition from b2b ad-page sales executive to revenue responsibilities that extend beyond traditional advertising. Per Manoni, his portfolio includes a suite of marketing services as robust as a digital media agency, syndicated research, and custom education and training programs. He is actively pursuing the integration of several business solutions and data partnership and acquisitions in support of SourceMedia’s diversification strategy.
