Don’t look away for a second or you will miss Dave Morgan as he builds another landmark digital company. The Johnny Appleseed of online advertising has been responsible for conceiving and developing some of the most important lengths of pipe in the interactive advertising infrastructure. As the founder of RealMedia he pioneered the online ad network, now a critical part of WPP. As the leader of TACODA, he was one of the first, and certainly the most articulate, cheerleaders of the emerging science of behavioral targeting. There was that brief layover at AOL, after selling them TACODA in 2007, where he was EVP of global advertising sales. But then Dave was off again to help build The Tennis Company into an international print and online brand. And just last month, Dave finally announced his next major venture, Simulmedia, which will try to bring some of the art and science of predictive and behavioral modeling to improving the effectiveness of TV show promotion. More than just a serial entrepreneur, however, Dave has been digital media’s relentless advocate. With his roots in the newspaper print world, Dave has always understood and spoken directly to the needs of traditional media as they made their transition to digital. He helped decipher for the print world how the technology and the business models of new media can, should and now must change what they do and how they relate to both advertisers and audiences. In addition to starting many of the companies that power the Internet’s commercial engine, Dave Morgan is also this industry’s CEO—chief explaining officer.
