Winner: InformationWeek Business Technology Network for InformationWeek 500
By merging a virtual event with the live InformationWeek 500 face-to-face conference, IW created an online event that had all the energy, immediacy and rich social interaction of a real-world exhibit. The annual IW ranking of top 500 innovative users of business technology forms the editorial core of the programming, but IW converts a simple ranking franchise into a real learning experience. An analytics report examines the real reasons for IT success, the best practices and investments, executive qualities and competitive edge that drove the winners. The virtual event drilled into that editorial core with video interviews of the top CIO Innovators as well as videos of attendees commenting from the live show floor. The virtual extension of the live event pulled together presentations from the IW 500 face-to-face with the publisher’s research, unique online presentations and interactive resources to give a concentrated content experience that was in some ways more compact and accessible than a live show. The 1,160 registrants for the show exceeded original targets by 200%, and sponsorship revenue ran 20% over goals. IW demonstrated how an editorially driven event using strong virtual technology can deliver compelling events that work across real and digital platforms.
