2011 Best of the Web Awards: Redesign
Thursday, April 7, 2011
Vanity Fair – Vanityfair.com
After years sitting on the edges of the Web conversation, VanityFair.com finally and confidently entered the digital fray in 2010. A bold redesign carried online the deft design sense of the monthly, with clean open spaces to read and discover a wealth of images, feature content, smart blogs and the best of the magazine itself. In addition to a screen-filling rotator of visually enticing features, the new site brings forward to the home page all of the fresh Web content alongside the franchises and signature coverage of film, fashion and culture. In a tri-column format, the magazine, daily posts and real-time twitter posts give the VF loyalists and newcomers at-a-glance immersion in the richness of the brand. VanityFair.com effectively announces the brand’s relevance to the 24/7 Web ethos while maintaining its anchor in the design and editorial values of print.
Honorable Mentions
AICPA – The New AICPA.org
The hub site for certified public accountants had the unenviable task of unifying 40 separate sites already serving the profession. The new AICPA.org leveraged Web 2.0 principles to serve its many constituencies but within a manageable central site.
TMG Custom Media – WashingtonFlyer.com
The WashingtonFlyer.com site finally broke free from its roots in repurposing print and evolved into a tool and a genuine interactive city guide for travelers who visit D.C. frequently.
