Style.com (Fairchild Fashion Group/Condé Nast Digital) – The Future Of Fashion
With a far-reaching set of interviews with industry leaders, Style.com found the substance in fashion. The Future of Fashion got beneath the glamour and brought readers into the minds of the people who know the business behind the glitz. The editorial power of the series came from its mission, to chart how the changes in technology, culture, marketing and economies are changing the fashion world just as surely as they are changing all other aspects of modern life. Style.com recognized that fashion does not float above it all but is itself as much a product of change as it is an agent of transformation. It asked the good questions. How has digital media, social networking, or user feedback affected this business? Are fashion shows made obsolete in a world where images can be made and distributed in seconds everywhere? Are the traditions of fashion seasons and traveling shows even relevant in a flattened global market? The resulting interviews with the likes of Oliver Zahm of Purple magazine, Marc Jacobs company president Robert Duffy and Barneys New York fashion director Julie Gilhart, among many others, went beyond the self-puffery and hype. They revealed genuine tensions and frustrations with the fashion world from some of its most powerful players.
