Vogue – Vogue.com
If you are re-launching an iconic fashion magazine brand online, then you can be pretty sure the whole world is watching. Vogue.com didn’t miss a step as it paraded down the digital runway in September with a stunning new look that leveraged every bit of the brand’s legendary assets. From a feature carousel that fills half the browser window, to 1920x1200 stills, to a custom 16:9 video player, Vogue.com addresses the fashionista’s urge to look, touch, and feel. The magazine lets out all of the stops on the site, pouring in lush, super-sized images from some of the world’s best fashion photographers, from Lindbergh to Leibovitz. The videos are sculpted as much as they are edited to convey the excitement and passion of design in its use of color and movement. The site design itself is deeply informed by the classic look of the magazine- with careful use of font variety, white space, shading and layouts that guide the eye. The relaunch was both a critical and market success. It even attracted the digerati and was named one of the top 5 site designs by Mashable. The site increased traffic by more than 25% in three months and pushed its Facebook fan base over 1 million. Vogue clearly came to the Web this year with renewed determination to lead the fashion world online as surely as it has offline for decades.
