Beckman’s Fairchild Authority Expands to W

The 2004-2009 Condé Nast Media Group president Richard Beckman assumed the much-lower-profile Fairchild Fashion Group presidency in March with the promise to min (March 30, 2009) that he will "energize it." Opportunity comes with CN president/CEO Chuck Townsend giving Beckman authority over the fashion monthly W, with VP/publisher (since March 2005) Nina Lawrence now reporting to him.

In a sense, W returns to its roots, as it was John Fairchild who launched the magazine in 1972 as a glossy complement to Women’s Wear Daily. Fairchild Publications was Walt Disney Co.-owned (via Capital Cities ABC) when CN acquired it in 1999.
