The onetime Variety president/CEO is getting back to his B2B roots as lead man in a new private-equi-ty-backed entity called 1105 Media that last week got itself on the map in a hurry with the more or less simultaneous purchases of 101communications and Stevens Publishing. No terms were disclosed for either deal, which combined give 1105 a nice foothold in several different markets--IT niches, education, occupational health--with good growth potential and that provide good portfolio diversification. Moreover, the acquisitions give it a range of publishing frequencies, formats (standard as well as tabloid), Web extensions, events, and training materials....
